Installing A WordPress Theme

When installing a WordPress theme we will be using the free Halcyon theme in this project to keep expenses down. There is also a Pro version of this theme for $59 but we will pass on the costlier version for now, although the pro has many more features. You can upgrade later on if you wish. Downloading The WordPress Theme

You will receive an email with a link to download the theme to your hard drive. Also in the email are instructions for downloading the demo information to add to your site. Once the theme has downloaded and the demo information installed you will be able to configure it to your needs. Other themes do not have demo content and are one click installs but this theme, with it’s many features, is worth spending the time to install the demo content. The authors of this theme have made installing a WordPress theme easy.

Uploading The Theme

Once in the admin console click on Appearance/Theme, click the Add New button, the next step in inatalling a WordPress theme. Click the Upload Theme button, then the Browse button and select the file. Once it appears,click Install Now. When it uploads, click Activate to make the theme live. Once the theme is live, the demo content needs to be installed.

Adding The Demo Content

When installing a WordPress theme you will need to add the demo content to give you a starting point. Download the Rara One Click Demo import, as per the instructions in the email you received and save it to your hard drive. Click on Plugins/Add New and click the Upload Plugin button, browse to the plugin and click install Now. Activate the plugin and then download Halycon Demo Contents. Click on Appearances/Rara Demo Import and click on the Upload Demo File button, browse to the, then click on Install Now. On the next page click on Import Demo Now. Once you get the Completed Successfully message click on the check the Front Page link. You will see your site with demo content. Deactivate the Rara One Click Import plugin. Once you are done installing the theme it is time to move on.
